FIELD DAY: Marc Maxey & Ellen DOnnelly

Field Day is a multi-faceted architecture and development practice dedicated to the stewardship of our built and natural environment. Field Day brings expertise in architectural design, a respect for history and a keen understanding of contemporary design and urbanism to our work. We are entrepreneurs, dreamers, and innovators willing to disrupt the status quo of our own discipline to improve the quality and accessibility of design. Our practice combines research and creative exploration to inform our projects. We strive to promote meaningful relationships and healthy lifestyles for ourselves, the people we work with and the larger community.

MARC is a registered architect in the state of Michigan whose research and practice interests lie at the intersection of design and real estate development. He received a bachelor of science in architecture from the University of Michigan and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University. While at Princeton, Marc was selected as the 2015 Dalai Lama Fellow for his project, A Citizen’s Guide To Real Estate Investment, which critically examined Wayne County’s foreclosure process in order to protect occupants from unnecessary evictions. Prior to returning to Michigan in 2021, Marc was a lecturer in the College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

ELLEN is an architectural designer, researcher and educator, whose work explores the social and cultural manifestations of architecture. Through design interventions addressing material histories, construction assemblies and fabrication techniques, she reconsiders preconceived notions about architecture’s stability and permanence, and proposes alternatives through speculative design. She received a bachelor of art in Urban Design and Architectural Studies from New York University and a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Design-Research from the University of Michigan. She has held various teaching positions at the University of Michigan, Pasadena City College and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
